Some History...

(Yes, I've marketing online since 1988... that's before the commercial internet began in 1994... that's before AOL. The major services at the time were Genie, Prodigy, Compuserve and hundreds of private BBS services. It used to cost 20 bucks a month for an autoresponder! 1200 Baud modems ruled the world... and yes I was techie enough to have a 300 Baud that attached with phone cups, but the dang thing never worked properly. ;-)

In the old days I had a Tandy TRS80 and Atari 1040ST computers. I took part in the desktop publishing revolution along with the Apple Computer, Adobe Postscript and Aldus Pagemaker. That trio was about to change commercial printing forever. I "graduated" to the Apple Macintosh when I got my hands on a used SE30 in 1989, and have been using the Mac ever since.

I was at the Seybold publishing show in 1994 when the "commercial" internet made its debut. I picked up a CD. On it was a copy of the Mosaic browser, along with the San Francisco Examiner in HTML format.

I realized that this was the most important invention since Gutenberg's "movable type" printing press. The power had shifted. No longer did the "power of the press" belong to those who own one. The power of the press was now in the hands of the common man.

Anyone could own a website. Everyone could publish. It wouldn't be long before traditional media would feel the impact. It was time to get out of the printing industry.

I set up my first commercial web sites in 1994. I designed them for clients, because hosting and a domain name ran several hundred dollars per month back then. If you want to look at the WayBack Machine at Archive.org, you can see my first personal site, which debuted in 1996.
