Affiliate marketing niche with little or no competition

How sad to find my new website had a mere 128 visitors. But that's ok, I don't expect many people looking for hockey helmets at this time of year. As most people with a background in advertising, I'm always trying to think - and make web pages - six months ahead of the consumer buying patterns.

The good news is... to everything there is a season. A time to skate, a time for dieting, a time for Valentines, a time for back to school, a time for flowers. And right now it's time for barbecue.

Yes, it's true. Six months ago in the dead of winter, I kept busy with thoughts of summer sunshine and roasting the chicken, ribs and corn on the BBQ. Why???

Because one day in February, while watching the Food Channel, they claimed some amazing statistics.

1) 75% of Americans own an outdoor grill

2) 54% of them cook on it all year round

3) 42% claim it to be their favorite method of entertaining


Wow... those are really big numbers!

Some of you will remember reading in this newsletter, that all you need to do is look around your room, to find things you have in common with everyone else on the planet.

And before we focus our energy on setting up a mininet on any topic, it must pass two rules:

Rule #1

It must be commonly searched terms or items.

Rule #2

Solve the problem of the common person and super niche it.


It turns out that after doing a little keyword research and niche finding, BBQs make an excellent mininet topics because there are so many types.

There's natural gas, propane, charcoal, pits, built-in, smokers, brick, portable and even electric. There's different types like Coleman, Weber, Sunbeam, Broil King, Fiesta, Jacuzzi, Jenn Air, Sterling, West Bend and dozens more.

And of course my favorite, replacement parts... the stuff that gets used up or breaks, like burners, grids, grates, ignitors, rocks, briquets, windows, racks, thermometers, valves and knobs.

There's so many favorites that get cooked like chicken, ribs, brisket, salmon, corn and the perennial favorite... steak. There's sauces, salsas, dips, rubs and marinades. There's even searches for invitations, themes, decorations, menu planning... and how about this one, bbq sauce stain removal!

Then there's all the related secondary words that we can optimize pages for. Things that people may be searching for while wanting to have a backyard party. Think patio lights, sundecks, backyard, balcony, folding, portable, outdoor, and try to find niches for these products, set up web pages and advertise your BBQ sites all over them.

Turns out that it's really easy to optimize sites for recipes. Lots of people search for different kinds of BBQ sauces and dry rubs. But very few people putting recipes online know anything about optimizing web pages for the search engines.

Then you can use those pages as leverage, advertising collateral, or in other words... advertise like crazy all your other sites dedicated to the more competitive BBQs and parts.

So keep your eyes and ears open. Any time you hear that 75% of Americans own something, 54% of them use it year round, 42% say it's a favorite... you've definitely found a winner.
