After my interview with Christian Weselak (the PPC Ninja) and Colin McDougall, we spent another hour chatting about using PPC for affiliate marketing. One of the things that came up, was bidding on current events using PPC.
The PPC Ninja routinely bids on infomercial products. What about current events, or trade shows, or even television programs?
If you have a TV on your computer like eyeTV, and a subscription to TV Guide, you can see which movies are coming up and who the guests will be on the talk shows.
Both will create a flurry of searches for the names of the actors. You could bid on those names and send the traffic to an allposters.com page.
Same deal with CNN News or Google Trends. You can see at a glance the hottest searches on the internet right now. Many of them are movie stars. Bidding on their names, while they are hot, can be very profitable.
Even monster trucks???
The other day I was downtown and wondered where all these dads and kids were coming from. Tens of thousands wafting out into the streets, carrying little pennants and dressed in green t-shirts. Turns out the monster truck rally / tractor pull just ended.
You can only imagine the flurry of searches the next day. Dads looking for posters and memorabilia to keep the love going. (Not to mention little Billy’s sudden fascination and desire for all things monster truck.)
The bottom line is to keep your eyes and ears open. Look for events that are upcoming or happening now. Then position your PPC ads for the flood of search leading up to, during and immediately after the event. The PPC Ninja made a fortune doing just that.
