Site Builder or Blog… Which is Better?

The trouble with most site builders? You can’t get your site out of it and edit it in something else, once you’ve committed to it. So unless your builder is generating pure w3.org compliant CSS or HTML code, be absolutely sure of your choice.

But before you start designing a site, ask yourself if it will benefit from constant updates or just remain static over time. If you plan on adding regular content, then blog software like WordPress might be the better choice.

WordPress can build static html pages and blog pages. So you can use it as a complete content management system. All you need is a nice theme to change the look of your site.

Why WordPress? Because its an Open Source Project with a large community of developers. You host the site. No third party can shut it down. There’s a ton of themes and plugins available. And it’s the most SEO friendly platform.

So if you’re stuck between using a site builder or blogging platform, choose the blog software every time. Once you install it, all you need is internet access and a web browser, and you can modify your content from anywhere in the world.

The paradox of choice comes from a famous Stanford University jam study. When people were provided with six flavors, they were very satisfied with their purchase. When presented with 20 types, they were less satisfied with their purchase decisions.

Limit the amount of choices on your home page to your best sellers. Feature six items or less. Your visitors will stay longer. And your customers will be more satisfied with their decisions.
